The idea of the Great British Staycation is at an all-time high. Since the global pandemic, flights abroad have become a lot more expensive, so many people are choosing to holiday at home. As a nation, we’re actually very lucky, because we have such an eclectic mix of destinations, such as sandy beaches, charming seaside resorts, cool cities, lush green countryside and beautiful villages. So how do you choose where to go?
We couldn’t settle on a particular place in Cornwall (although Bude is a secret favourite), so we chose the entire county because there’s so much to see and do! Land’s End, the Eden Project, Newquay’s nightlife – Cornwall is one of the most versatile, cheap, UK holiday destinations ever. Of course, for some people, no British Staycation would be complete without a sandy beach – if that’s the case, you can head to Hayle for rock pooling, Cornish pasties, ice creams and surfing.

If you’re looking for a vibrant Victorian seaside town with an adventurous twist then Southport could be perfect for you. It’s especially popular with adrenaline junkies as you can windsurf, sail, paddle and row to your heart’s content. Of course outdoor activities may not be an option, as we all know British weather can be temperamental. So you could always head to the brilliant Southport Splash World for the amazing water slides and relaxing spa. Silcock’s Funland, the amusement arcade at the pier entrance is also a must-do for all ages, as is Pleasureland, which is full of roller coasters and the recently built Speed Loop (not for the faint-hearted!).
Campers: Leisure Lakes is the ultimate camping site for just about anyone. Available for caravans or tents, this campsite offers so many activities too, such as paintballing, Segway, cycling, horse riding, fishing and so much more. It’s also only a five-minute drive from the beach!

We couldn’t leave out the North East of England! North Tyneside has a wide range of attractions, from strolling through Tyneside Priory & Castle to whizzing around Newcastle on a shopping spree. If you want a cheap UK holiday with a difference, then North Tyneside is not to be missed. Visit the beautiful St Mary’s Lighthouse with its awesome rock pools and the incredible blue-flag beaches or just enjoy nearby Newcastle’s hip bars and restaurants, perhaps with a touch of retail therapy added in for good measure.
