Put on your hat, gloves and grab some sparklers, it’s Bonfire night! Get ready for a mad night full of thrills and amazing fireworks. Where in the UK is the best place to spend it? Here’s our pick of the 10 best Bonfire night celebrations in the UK.

The fifth of November…

East Sussex

You will never forget this magnificent bonfire night highlighted by its grand procession. If you like an impressive torchlight parade and want to dress up in an elaborate costume, Lewes is where you need to be. There will be around 30 visiting bonfire societies and loads more marching bands. All dressed up these groups will parade on the cobbled streets, passing 17 burning crosses. This is to commemorate Lewes’s 17 Protestant martyrs. The night will end with a huge firework display taking place on the hills near Lewes. What’s even better is that the procession is completely for free. However, if you want to have a good view of the fireworks we recommend you purchase tickets.

Ottery St Mary, Devon

This bonfire night screams danger. It involves a peculiar tradition that dates even further back than the Gunpowder Plot. Women, men and children of all ages run through the town carrying barrels full of tar that are set on fire. If you like the sound of that but would rather observe than participate don’t panic! Midsummer Common, Cambridge

Want to go somewhere with a big crowd? You can expect nothing less in Midsummer Common, Cambridge. It is traditional and family friendly, hosted by Cambridge Live. The bonfire is probably one of the biggest you’ll ever see and there’s plenty of fairground rides. The event will take place at 6 pm, is for free and you don’t need to purchase tickets.

Wimbledon Park, London

Both adults and children will love this option. A child suitable show will be performed at 6:45 pm and an adult one at 8:45. You can also expect some incredible street food from Jacket potato to sausages and burgers. Price is £8.80 for adults, £6.60 for juniors (ages 5 to 16) and free for under 4. Book now from: Merton.

Skinningrove Bonfire, Yorkshire

One of the most impressive fireworks displays in the country will take place in Yorkshire with a Wintergrove theme and music accompaniment. The event is free, but donations are welcome. You can also get ready for a treat of some tasty food and hot drinks. The event starts at 7 pm and the bonfire will be lit at 7:30. Herefordshire

Ready for a whole day of celebrations? Starting with food stalls, music, face painting and biscuit making, this bonfire celebration will transport you to a magical universe. You can either visit Pembridge or Hay-on-Wye. The former is for free, the later will cost £4 adults and £1 children, however, free parking will be available.

Leeds Castle

You can celebrate bonfire night with a dance if you go to Leeds Castle on the 3rd and 4th of November. Shake it to songs like ‘Just Dance’ and ‘I like to move it’ as you watch the sky above you flare up. This year’s theme is party pyrotechnic, which sounds great for children as well as adults. Entertainment will be provided from celebrities such as Adam Chandler and Jonny Meah from Heart. You can arrive from 2 pm onwards and before watching the fireworks at 5.30 pm. Alexandra Palace, London

Ally Pally fireworks can definitely be trusted to put on a show! The London sky will be lit by zingers, spinning Catherine wheels and sky rockets. There will also be a laser show starting at 8:30 pm followed by the famous fireworks at 9 pm on the 2nd and 3rd of November. Himley Hall, Dudley

Head to Dudley to visit Himley Hall, and celebrate heroes and heroins from all walks of life. Bring a pocket full of OOOhhhs and AAAhhhs. An exceptional night of family fun with fireworks and fairground rides. If you book in advance you can save up to 20% (pricing varies, but expect to pay around £10 per person) . Therefore don’t wait up and get ready for street entertainment, private bar, refreshments a night market and obviously an amazing fireworks display. Starts at 4:30 pm with the bonfire being lit at 7:45 pm followed by fantastic fireworks accompanied by music. Please note that parking is £3 per vehicle, but there will be a free bus service. Dorchester Rugby Football Club

Boom! A spectacular firework night will take place on the 3rd of November with a hog roast, BBQ, bar and other forms of entertainment. Gates open at 6 pm and fireworks start at 8 pm. Prices may change on a daily basis, however, expect to spend around £4 for an adult ticket and £2 for a junior one. Buy tickets before prices go up!
